Field Hockey Earns 6-0 Shutout over Becker

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 17, 2016 – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team scored three goals in each half to defeat Becker 6-0 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-2 and will wrap up a five-game home stand on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. contest against Wheelock. Becker drops to 0-7 and will play at Rivier on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Sophomore Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) wasted little time to put the home team in front with her third goal of the season at 2:32.

Sophomore Nikki Pignone (Ipswich, Mass.) doubled the Chargers' lead nine minutes later with an unassisted tally.

Colby-Sawyer added a third goal before the end of the first off the stick of sophomore Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.).

The Chargers would score three more times in the second half on goals from junior Ashley Mikkila (North Oxford, Mass.), freshman Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) and Schuster.

Colby-Sawyer sophomore Xena Ras (Medfield, Mass.) made two stops and did not allow a goal in the win. Becker keeper Elysabeth Jefferies (Lisbon Falls, Maine) had 15 stops.  

Junior Amy Grenier (Westminster, Mass.) had three shots to lead Becker.

The Chargers outshot Becker 25-5 and had a 10-0 advantage in penalty corners.
