NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 13, 2016 – The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team blanked Johnson State, 9-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division opener for both teams.  

Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-1 and will travel to Castleton on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. NEAC East tilt. Johnson State suffers its first loss of the season to drop to 3-1. The Badgers will host Husson on Saturday at noon.

The Chargers won all three doubles matches in convincing fashion to take a 3-0 lead. Junior Ashley Woodside (Hampden, Maine) and sophomore Maddy Gemerek (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) dispatched Katerina Van Woerkom and Nicole Monick, 8-1 at the top spot. Junior Evelyn Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) and sophomore Aislinn O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn.) also won at No. 2 by an 8-1 score over Jana Somero and Mikayla Messier. Juniors Lauren Blanchard (Agawam, Mass.) and Christine Hill (Wallingford, Conn.) made it a doubles sweep for Colby-Sawyer by defeating Kali Covell and Sam Kershner, 8-0 at No. 3.

Woodside and Miller won at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, without dropping a game to secure the win for the home team.

Gemerek won her No. 3 match 6-1, 6-2, while O'Connor won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4.

Seeing their first action of the season, freshman Ari Sullivan (Salem, N.H.) and junior Abbie Rix (Westfield, Mass.) won in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
