Men's Tennis to Play Nichols in NCAA Tournament

NEW LONDON, N.H. – May 9, 2016 – The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team will play Nichols College of the Commonwealth Coast Conference on Friday in the NCAA Tournament First Round. The match will be played at 1 p.m. in Brunswick, Maine at Bowdoin College.

BRACKET

Colby-Sawyer will take its 10-match winning streak and 15-5 overall record into Friday's NCAA Tournament First Round. The Chargers are making a fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament after winning Sunday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC)/North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crossover championship. The Chargers fell to Yeshiva, 5-3 in last year's NCAA Tournament.

The teams met in the NCAA Tournament in 2013, which was the Chargers' first appearance, and Nichols came away with the 5-0 win. The Bison hold a slim 13-12 edge in the series and have won five of the last six meetings.

Nichols (19-4) is also sporting a 10-match win streak entering its fifth straight NCAA Tournament after winning a fifth consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference championship 5-3 over top seed Roger Williams. The Bison won an NCAA first round match over Ramapo last season before falling to Middlebury in the second round.

The NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Committee has selected the 43 teams that will compete in the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships. The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the first, second and third rounds played at regional sites, May 13-15. Kalamazoo College will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 23-25 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The championships provide for a 43-team tournament. Automatic qualification (AQ) is granted to 35 conference champions, which form "Pool A." Three teams are selected from true independents and schools from conferences that do not have an automatic bid for their champions (Pool B). The remaining five teams are selected from those teams in conferences with automatic bids that did not win their conference's AQ and the remaining Pool B institutions (Pool C). The teams are geographically paired, whenever possible.
