CASTLETON, Vt. - April 30, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team swept MCLA, 9-0 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division semifinals before earning a 5-0 triumph over Castleton in the finals to claim the program's fifth straight East Division title.
The Chargers (14-5) will now play Penn State Abington (9-6) in the NAC/NEAC Crossover Championship with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line. The Nittany Lions won a third straight NAC West Division title with a 5-2 victory over Penn State Berks today. Next Sunday's match will take place on Sunday, May 8 at the Tri-City Tennis Club in Latham, N.Y. with a first serve set for 11:30 a.m. The Chargers beat the Nittany Lions 8-1 two years ago in the crossover and again last season 7-2.

The Chargers swept doubles play to take an important 3-0 lead in the match. The No. 1 doubles duo of
Gustav Jigrup and
Andrew Peloquin got the Chargers' first point with an 8-1 victory over Seth Marcil and Kevin Rosset.
Dean Boodakian and
Ryan Sawyer held off Soren Pelz-Walsh and Quentin Barthe to win the No. 2 match at 8-6, while
Ross Kenney and
Alex Wright captured the third-flight match, 8-6.
Jigrup gave Colby-Sawyer a 4-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Wright closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the second-flight match. He was named Tournament MVP after winning all four of his matches this afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer clinched its spot in the NAC East Division Championship this afternoon with a 9-0 victory in the semifinal round over the fourth-seeded MCLA Trailblazers.
The Chargers dropped just five points in doubles play and notched six straight-sets singles victories to secure their spot in the final for the fifth straight season. The Trailblazers, meanwhile, finished their season at 4-7 overall.
Ryan Sawyer and
Dean Boodakian teamed up in the top-flight doubles match, capturing a perfect 8-0 win over Aaron Goldsmith and Rob Wabshinak. The tandem of
Alex Wright and
Ross Kenney claimed an 8-2 win in second doubles, while
Andrew Peloquin and
Shawn Bissonette gave Colby-Sawyer a 3-0 lead with an 8-3 victory in the third-flight.
The Chargers maintained that momentum into singles, as Wright opened play with a perfect, 6-0, 6-0 win in the top-flight. Sawyer took the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-2 to put the top seed in front 5-0 and clinch the win, followed by straight-sets victories in the No. 3-6 matches by Kenney,
Ryan Broderick and Peloquin.
