Men's Tennis Edges Gordon, 5-4

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 27, 2016 – The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team concluded the regular season with a 5-4 victory over Gordon in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

Today's win marks the third victory over a team from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Chargers have defeated Gordon, Nichols and Endicott who are a combined 41-16 this season and are three of the top four teams in the conference standings.  

Colby-Sawyer improves to 12-5 and will travel to Castleton on Saturday to play MCLA in the NAC East Division semifinals. Gordon drops to 15-5 and will host Eastern Nazarene on Saturday for a CCC tournament first round contest.  

Gordon took an important two of three doubles matches, but Colby-Sawyer was able to win four of the six singles matches to secure the victory.

Ross Kenney (Hampton Falls, N.H.) and Alex Wright (St. Austell, Cornwall, England) recorded the lone doubles point for Colby-Sawyer with a 9-7 win at No. 3 over Mike D'Antuono and Joe Daugherty. Gordon's top team of Zach Hall and Mason Casady defeated Gustav Jigrup (Vastra Frolunda, Sweden) and Andrew Peloquin (Greenville, R.I.), 8-4. The No. 2 duo of Nate Lookwhy and Peter Goodwin came away with an 8-3 win over Dean Boodakian (Burlington, Mass.) and Ryan Sawyer (Edgartown, Mass.).

Jigrup continued to rack up impressive wins at the top flight. He took a three set win (6-0, 3-6, 6-3) over Zach Hall who entered today's match 13-1 on the season.

The Fighting Scots received wins from Casady and Lookwhy at No. 2 and No. 3. Casady dropped the first set to Wright 6-1, but was able to fight back and take sets two and three by identical 7-5 scores. Lookwhy gave Gordon its fourth point of the match by edging Sawyer 7-5, 6-3.

Colby-Sawyer would lock up the win by taking flights four, five and six. Boodakian won his fifth match in a row by beating D'Antuono 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4. Kenney won at the fifth slot in impressive fashion 6-1, 6-4 over Godwin. Ryan Broderick (Londonderry, N.H.) secured the victory for Colby-Sawyer with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6 over Daugherty.
