NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 13, 2016 – Sophomore
Alli Barrett (Kittery, Maine) scored a career-high 13 points to lead the Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team to a 55-38 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Thomas College on Saturday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 12-11 overall and 9-8 in the NAC. The Chargers will step out of conference on Tuesday to host Middlebury at 7 p.m. Thomas drops to 3-20 overall and 2-14 in conference play. The Terriers will travel to Husson on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
Barrett provided a spark off the bench when she entered late in the first quarter. The Chargers were trailing 10-6, but Barrett scored the final seven points of the frame to give Colby-Sawyer a 13-10 lead.
The second quarter was back and forth until a three-point play by Barrett gave the home team a five point edge with less than three minutes to play. The Terriers responded with five straight points from senior Ashleigh Gagne (Waterville, Maine) to end the half with the score tied at 23-23.
The Chargers scored the first six points of the third and never looked back. Colby-Sawyer's defense held Thomas to one field goal and just three total points in the quarter to take a 36-26 lead into the fourth.
Colby-Sawyer held a double-digit lead for the entire fourth quarter and led by as much as 21 before coming away with the 55-38 victory.
Barrett led all scorers with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Senior teammate
Alyssa Keefe (Littleton, N.H.) also recorded a career-high in points with 12 in 12 minutes off the bench. Sophomore
Emmani Robinson (Newburgh, N.Y.) contributed eight points, six rebounds and a game best four steals.
Thomas received 12 points from Ashleigh Gagne and sophomore Jordan Agger-Barnes (South Portland, Maine). Agger-Barnes and senior Katie McAllister (Pittston, Maine) grabbed eight boards apiece.
