NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 3, 2016 – Freshman
Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team past Lyndon, 63-44, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer will travel to Middlebury on Tuesday for a match with the Panthers coached by 2014 Colby-Sawyer Athletic Hall of Fame inductee KJ Krasco '05. Lyndon drops to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in conference action. The Hornets will host Green Mountain on Thursday.
Hamilton added seven assists and six rebounds for the Chargers. Senior
Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Senior
Kristin Ellis (South Easton, Mass.) and freshman
Chelsea Dow (White River Junction, Vt.) added nine points apiece. Ellis also pulled down eight boards.
Lyndon was led by the conference's leading scorer junior Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, Vt.). The center had team highs of 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. Junior guard Gabby Foy (Wilton, Maine) was the second Hornet to reach double figures with 10 points. Freshman Alissa Mitchell (Milton, N.H.) chipped in seven points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Colby-Sawyer opened the game with an 8-2 run capped by a Hamilton trey. Lyndon responded with seven straight points (five from Foy) to take a 9-8 lead mid-way through the first quarter. Colby-Sawyer held the Hornets scoreless for the final 4:57 of the frame and used a 10-0 run to end the first 18-9.
The Chargers scored 18 points again in the second quarter and pushed their advantage to 21 after a
Morgan Fogg (Sanford, Maine) jumper with 2:22 left in the half. The Hornets would score the final five points of the half on a layup from senior Marley Harmon (Buxton, Maine) and three-point play from Mitchell. Colby-Sawyer led 36-20 after two.
The home team held a comfortable advantage throughout the third quarter and scored 10 of its 15 points in the paint. Lyndon received buckets from five different players for 12 points, but trailed 51-32 after three.
Each team scored 12 points in the fourth quarter as Colby-Sawyer went on for the 63-44 victory.
Colby-Sawyer won the rebound battle 56-39 and turned it into an 11-3 edge in second chance points. The Chargers also held a 14-2 advantage in fast break points.
