PLYMOUTH, N.H. - November 29, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team earned a 63-55 road win at Plymouth State on Tuesday evening.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 3-1 and will travel to Green Mountain tomorrow for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener at 7:30 p.m. Plymouth State drops to 1-3.
Freshman
Chelsea Dow (White River Junction, Vt.) led all players with 16 points, which included Colby-Sawyer's final eight points of the game to help secure the victory. Senior
Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) and freshman
Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) scored 12 points apiece. Senior
Kristin Ellis (South Easton, Mass.) had an impact at both ends of the floor with eight points, nine rebounds, four blocks and three steals.
The Panthers received 12 points from Kayla Wyland and De'Asia Lawrence. Cassidy Emerson added five points and a team best eight rebounds.
The Chargers led 14-12 after the first quarter as Iannone scored seven points on 3-for-3 from the floor. Plymouth State outscored Colby-Sawyer 15-10 in the second quarter to take a 27-24 advatnage into halftime.
A theme through the early part of the season for the Chargers rang true again on Tuesday evening as the team found an offensive flow in the third and fourth quarters. Colby-Sawyer made 8-of-17 field goal attempts and forced six turnovers in the third to outscore the Panthers 19-15. The fourth quarter was back and forth in the opening moments, but the Chargers pulled away late, finishing the game on a 14-2 run.
Colby-Sawyer turned 20 Plymouth State miscues into 25 points and shot 46.6% from the floor and 40% from beyond the arc.
