NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - November 20, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team fell at Smith College, 53-36, in the championship game of the Tyler Tip-Off Tournament.
Colby-Sawyer evens its record to 1-1 and will host its home opener on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Suffolk. Smith improves to 3-0.
Freshman
Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) recorded a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds in 19 minutes of work. For her efforts this weekend, Sugars was named to the All-Tournament Team. Senior
Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) was the other Charger in double figures with 10 points.
The Chargers struggled to find the range offensively and was held to 25.6 % from the floor.
Smith held a slim 11-10 lead after the first quarter, but extended the lead with a 15-7 second to head into the locker room in front 26-17. Colby-Sawyer got a couple points back by winning the third quarter 14-12, but the Pioneers defense held the visitors to five points in the fourth to secure the 53-36 victory.
Smith was led by Kennedy Guest-Pritchett who was the lone Pioneer in double digits with a game best 20 points. Paige Marquez added nine points and nine rebounds in the win.
