WESTFIELD, Mass. - November 18, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team was edged by Ramapo, 72-66, on day one of the Rick Martin/Holiday Inn Express Tournament hosted by Westfield State.
The Chargers drop to 0-2 and will play Mount Ida on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the consolation game. Mount Ida fell to Westfield State 91-65. Ramapo improves to 1-0 and will play the host Owls in the championship game at 3 p.m.
The first half was played closely throughout with Ramapo eventually heading into the break in front 29-27. Despite the Chargers making four more baskets than Roadrunners, Colby-Sawyer trailed by a bucket. Ramapo did most of its damage at the free throw line, making 16-of-20 from the charity stripe.
In a much higher scoring second frame, the Chargers kept the contest close with six three-pointers, while Ramapo made just two but hung on for the 72-66 victory.
Colby-Sawyer was led by sophomore
Jourdain Bell who posted 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Freshman
Dana Bean grabbed a team best 10 rebounds. Junior
Taylor Grande and sophomore
Milani Hicks scored 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Three Roadrunners scored in double figures as Christopher Moseley led the team with 19 points. Thomas Bonacum posted 14 points and a team high seven rebounds. Josh Ford posted 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists while James Longadded added seven points and a team high four assists.
Colby-Sawyer won the rebounding battle 43-40.
