CASTINE, MAINE - September 30, 2016 – The Colby-Sawyer College volleyball team dropped it's first ever North Atlantic Conference match on Friday night 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-12), to the Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy.
The Mariners held off the Chargers in the first set to win by a score of 25-23, climbing their way back from an early 9-4 deficit. MMA took the next two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-12, to pick up the win.
Gabrielle Rodriguez led the Chargers with five kills, while teammate Caroline McCoy added a team-high 10 digs and a pair of aces, and Olivia Goodrich tallied a team-leading 14 assists, while adding five digs, a kill, an ace and a block.
For the Mariners, Tess Clark led with a match-high 12 kills, nine digs, two assists, two blocks, and an ace, while teammate Gillian O'Neal notched a double-double of 10 kills, and a match-high 13 digs. O'Neal also tallied two aces and two blocks.
Sydney Adams led the Mariners with a match-high 17 assists and added four digs and an ace. Melissa Spaulding added 11 assists, six digs, and an ace.
The Mariners improve to 10-5 overall and 1-0 in the NAC, while the Chargers fall to 3-14 on the year and 0-1 in the conference. Both teams return to action tomorrow against Lyndon and Johnson State.
