UMaine-Farmington Edges Women's Basketball, 67-63

FARMINGTON, Maine – January 23, 2016 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team was edged at the University of Maine at Farmington, 67-63 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon in Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Chargers drop to 10-6 overall and 7-3 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer will return home next weekend to host Maine Maritime and Husson on Friday and Saturday, respectively. UMF improves to 9-6 overall and 7-2 in the conference. 
 
The Beavers had a pair of starters tally double figures as Meghan Smith powered UMF's offense with 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block. Kelly Pomerleau netted 13 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the floor and made 6-of-8 attempts from the foul line. Kennadi Grover added 10 points for the Beavers off the bench.
 
Amanda Calvo led the Chargers with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting and made four shots from long range. Lexi Iannone added 12 points and five rebounds for Colby-Sawyer and fellow starter, Jessica Shenkel, also had 10 points on the afternoon. Shenkel made a pair of trey's to give her 151 career makes and moved into 6th on the all-time list. 
 
The game was competitive until the final buzzer sounded as neither team trailed by more than eight points. Leading by two headed into the final quarter, the Beavers opened the final period with a 14-7 run to build some breathing room.
 
In the closing 30 seconds, the Chargers came with the full court pressure and got a pair of breakaway layups to close the gap to 65-63. After a Colby-Sawyer foul with a second remaining, Pomerleau hit both attempts from the line to put the game away.
