Comeback Falls Short as Eastern Nazarene Defeats Men's Soccer, 4-2

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 5, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer College men's soccer team dropped its home opener, 4-2, to Eastern Nazarene on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Kelsey Field.

Eastern Nazarene improves to 2-0 and will visit Wheelock on Tuesday. The Chargers fall to 0-2 and will host Clark on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.

The Lions struck first in the 10th minute as Andrew Nelson (Burtonsville, Md.) notched his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

After the next 32 minutes went scoreless, the visitors connected for two goals in a 21 seconds span to increase the lead to 3-0. Senior David Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) scored on a feed from Jacob Mason (Southport, England) who sent a corner kick towards the box. Mason then scored one of his own seconds later.

Freshman Kevin Tracy (West Hartford, Conn.) got the Chargers on the board in the 53rd minute with his first collegiate tally. Sophomore Denali Sexton (Barrington, R.I.) sent a bending ball inside the 18-yard box when Tracy connected with a strike into the opposite corner of the net.

The Chargers pulled to within one with 19:20 left to play, 3-2, as sophomore Zach Elmore (Berlin, Vt.) beat a couple of defenders down the field. Sexton set the play up with a flick to lead Elmore.

Eddings added an insurance goal with 13:26 to play. Possession of the ball was up for grabs between both teams when it found Eddings, which led to a 20-yard shot past the dive of the Chargers goalie.

Junior Jameson MacFarland (Jacksonville, Fla.) picked up his second victory of the year for the Lions with five saves. Colby-Sawyer sophomore Sean Babinski (Concord, Calif.) stopped three shots.
