BENNINGTON, Vt.- September 30, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team continued to roll through North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division play on Wednesday with a 9-0 victory over the MCLA Trailblazers in a match moved indoors to the Bennington Tennis Center.
With the win, the Chargers remain unbeaten in NEAC East play at 5-0 and move to 10-1 on the season. The Trailblazers fall to 5-5 overall and stand at 2-3 heading into the final weekend of conference play.
The Chargers took command early and rolled through doubles play dropping only a single game. The duo of
Ashley Woodside and
Maddy Gemerek won 8-1 while
Aislinn O'Connor and
Evelyn Miller teamed to win 8-0. The third duo of
Christine Hill and
Lauren Blanchard also won 8-0 heading into singles play.
Colby-Sawyer continued to roll taking the top three matches in straight sets. Woodside earned her second point in the top slot winning 6-0, 6-1. O'Connor breezed in the second slot winning 6-1, 6-0 and Miller took the win in the third spot winning 6-0, 6-0.
Because the tennis center only had three courts, the remaining matches were played with one pro style set. The Chargers won all three, including Blanchard and Hill winning 8-0.
Colby-Sawyer remains in the top spot in the conference standings heading into the weekend while MCLA is still alive for a playoff berth. The Trailblazers and Chargers will travel to Maine this weekend to battle both Husson and Thomas.
