DUDLEY, Mass. - September 27, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team handed the four-time reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) champions of Nichols College a 6-3 defeat in Dudley, Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon.
The Chargers earn a win over the Bison for the first time since the CCC quarterfinals on April 18, 2009. Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-0 and will play next Saturday at Conn. College along with Coast Guard and Babson.
After dropping two of three doubles matches, the Chargers had to rebound with a strong performance in singles action.
Andrew Peloquin and
Ross Kenney combined for an 8-4 win at third doubles to give Colby-Sawyer one point after doubles.
Needing four singles matches to come back for the win, the Chargers tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-4, 6-0 win by
Dean Boodakian at No. 5. After Nichols went in front 3-2 with a win at No. 4, Colby-Sawyer came away with victories in the remaining four singles matches to win the match 6-3.
Gustav Jigrup and
Alex Wright won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 3, respectively.
Cass McCann came back after dropping the first set 6-2 to win the second and third by a 6-1 score to win at the top flight.
After earning the Chargers' lone point in doubles,
Ross Kenney won his second point of the match with a hard fought 7-6 (8-6), 10-8 win at No. 6 singles.
