NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 8, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team received goals from nine different players in Wednesday's 17-5 win over Southern Vermont on a snowy Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field.
The Chargers improve to 5-5 and will host Wentworth tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. Southern Vermont falls to 1-4 and will host Rivier on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Colby-Sawyer held a 12-0 lead at the half, but the game was evenly played in the second as both teams scored five goals apiece. The Chargers finished the contest with a 31-16 edge in shots.
Freshman
Molly Mulcahy (Nashua, N.H.) and junior
Caitlyn Whearty (Hampstead, N.H.) led Colby-Sawyer with four goals each. Senior
Michelle Upham (Chelsea, Vt.) scored three times, while senior
Alyssia Janak (Bourne, Mass.) collected a game-high five assists. Janak has 19 assists this season which is tied for fifth most in a single season in program history.
Freshman
Carli Chiodo (Madbury, N.H.) and junior
Katherine Osborn (Framingham, Mass.) scored their first collegiate goals for the Chargers.
Southern Vermont was led by a three goal effort from sophomore Melodie Orrell (Gloucester, Mass.). She added a game best six ground balls. Sophomore Emily Lesure (Cheshire, Mass.) had a goal and a team-high four draw controls. Freshman Taylor Brewer (Bennington, Vt.) accounted for the fifth Mountaineers goal.
Freshman goalie Kelsey Carrera (Queensbury, N.Y.) made an impressive 11 saves for Southern Vermont.
