NEW LONDON, N.H. - April 19, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team swept the Beacons of UMass Boston, 9-0 as the team prepares to head to New York in a couple of weeks for the North Atlantic Conference (NAC)/ North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crossover match.
The Chargers improve to 11-10, while UMass Boston falls to 3-14.
Colby-Sawyer took a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles action.
Ashlyn Ramsay and
Ashley Woodside teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Sam White and
Christine Hill edged Kelsey Shea and Logan Smith at No. 2 doubles, 8-4. The No. 3 duo of
Lauren Blanchard and
Ellen Graham earned a hard fought 8-5 win to give the Chargers a comfortable lead after doubles.
The Chargers then took all six singles matches in straight sets highlighted by
Ashlyn Ramsay's 6-0, 6-2 win at the top flight and
Sam White's 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Christine Hill and
Ellen Graham won at No. 4 and No. 6 by scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
Ashley Woodside won her singles match 6-1, 6-4 at the second flight, while
Lauren Blanchard edged her opponent at No. 5 singles 7-5, 6-4.
