Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day with 15-5 Win over UMF

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 18, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team celebrated senior day at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field with a 15-5 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over the University of Maine-Farmington on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to today's game, seniors Carly Baker (Beverly, Mass.), Nichole Danehy (Billerica, Mass.), Alyssia Janak (Bourne, Mass.), Megan Raymond (Waterbury, Vt.) and Michelle Upham (Chelsea, Vt.) were honored for their years of dedication to the Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse program.5351

Colby-Sawyer extends its winning streak to five and improves to 8-5 overall. The Chargers finish the NAC regular season at 6-2. The team will travel to Rhode Island College on Thursday before playing a NAC tournament first round matchup over the weekend. UMF drops to 5-7 overall and 4-4 in conference play and will play a NAC tournament first round game next weekend.

The home team held an 11-2 edge at the half, but the game was closely played in the second with the Chargers outscoring UMF 4-3.

Alyssia Janak led all players with six points on five goals and an assist. At the 17:52 mark of the first half, Janak buried her third goal of the game and reached 100 career points. The assist also moved her into a tie for seventh on the all-time assists list with 37.

Carly Baker also moved into the top-ten in career assists with 30 after recording a game-high three helpers.

Megan Raymond tallied her first career goal 2:24 into the contest, which gave the Chargers a 2-0 lead.

Michelle Upham had a goal and a team best three caused turnovers, while Nichole Danehy collected one assist.

Sophomore Megan Castellano (Wallingford, Conn.) made eight saves and recorded her ninth career win to move into seventh on the all-time wins list.  

Junior Mara Balboni (Oakland, Maine) led UMF with a pair of goals, while senior Maddi Kadnar (Belgrade, Maine) had three points on a goal and two assists.

Sophomore Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine) had six saves for the Beavers.
