Women's Lacrosse Tops Johnson State, 16-4

JOHNSON, Vt. - April 15, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team defeated Johnson State 16-4 at the hosts first home game of the season. 

Caitlyn Whearty and Nicole Lavigne led the Chargers with three goals each to help them improve to 7-5 on the season and 5-2 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.  The Badgers drop to 2-9 overall and stand 1-5 in conference play.
 
In the opening stanza, the Chargers commanded control immediately, going on a 4-0 run within the first five minutes of play. Johnson's Nichole Weeks put the Badgers on the board at the 20:00 mark, only to see the visitors go on an 8-0 run to end the half up, 12-1.
 
The Badgers played closely in the second half as they held the Chargers to just four more goals, answering three of them. Johnson's Kylie Aither notched all three goals in the second half.
 
Colby-Sawyer out shot its opponents 38-9 and won 16 draw controls to the Badger's seven.

Alyssia Janak had two goals and two assists. She now has 21 assists this season, which is the fourth most in a single season for the Chargers.
 
Between the pipes, Samantha Jankowski stopped 17 shots for the Badgers while her counterpart, Meghan Castellano stopped two.
 
Johnson State will host Castleton on Saturday as they continue NAC play while Colby-Sawyer will host Me.-Farmington for a 1:00pm NAC tilt.
