NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 1, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team suffered their first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) loss of the season Wednesday afternoon to Castleton State College. The Spartans earned a 12-3 victory over the Chargers.
With the win, Castleton improves to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in NAC play, while the Chargers drop to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the NAC.
The first half was a closely contested game with the visitors holding a 4-2 lead at the half. The two teams exchanged early goals as juniors

Caitlyn Whearty found the back of the net for the Chargers. The Spartans scored twice in the final three minutes to take the two goal lead into the half.
Castleton opened up the second half with three goals in the first three minutes to extend the lead to 7-2.
Caitlyn Whearty netted her second goal of the game to cut the lead to four, but the Spartans would prove too much for the Chargers by scoring the game's final five goals en route to the 12-3 victory.

The Spartans were led by three goal performances from Brianna Mackay (Randolph, Vt.), Maddy DeCosta (New Bedford, Mass.) and Kate Auer (So. Glens Falls, N.Y.).

Meghan Castellano picked up seven saves in the loss. The Castleton goalkeeping duo Meghan Els (Commack, N.Y.) and Rachel Bombardier (Pittsford, Vt.) each stopped five shots in the win.
The Chargers return to action Thursday when they host non-conference opponent Plymouth State. First draw is set for 4:00pm. Castleton travels to Norwich on Friday.
