Rob Wallace Throws Out School Record 36th Baserunner

BANGOR, Maine - March 29, 2015 – Colby-Sawyer baseball senior Rob Wallace broke a school record in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader at Husson by throwing out his 36th baserunner trying to steal. The Eagles won both games by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. 

Husson improves to 8-7 overall and 6-0 in the NAC), while the Chargers dip to 0-14 and 0-6. Colby-Sawyer will play at Franklin Pierce Tuesday night against Fisher College. 

Wallace surpassed the previous mark of runners caught stealing of 35 set by Brandon McFadden '11. 

Game 1 – Husson 6, Colby-Sawyer 1

The Eagles got off to a quick start, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Andrew Curran scored on a Kyle Bishop ground out to the short stop, JT Whitten brought home Brandon Gendreau on a sacrifice fly to right field, and Darik Messier scored from second on a shot up the middle by Christian Corneil.

The Chargers got back a run in the top of the third as Drew Inglesi plated Tim Donovan on a sacrifice fly to left field.

Husson added three more runs in the bottom of third with Jordan Carter driving in one with a single up the middle. Zach Sugar drove in the other two off a double to right field.

Rob Wallace's record breaking play came in the bottom of the sixth as he threw out Zach Sugar trying to steal second. 

Ben Walls pitched a solid six innings for the Eagles, improving to 2-1 on the season after allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts. Seth Freudenberger pitched the sixth inning for Husson registering two strikeouts.

Joey Fenuccio led the Chargers with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate. 

Michael Fazio picked up the loss for the Chargers, falling to 0-2 on the season.

Game 2 – Husson 6, Colby-Sawyer 0

Husson again struck in the first inning with five runs. 

Andrew Curran scored off a JT Whitten drive through the left side. Darik Messier notched the second RBI on a fielders choice ball hit to the short stop, Brandon Gendreau scored from third.

Christian Corneil cleared the bases with his third homerun of the season over the left field fence.

Zach Sugar added the sixth and final run of the afternoon, plating Darik Messier off a single to right field. 

Ben Holmes picked up his first win of the season, improving to 1-1. Holmes pitched five scoreless innings, allowing three hits with four strikeouts and one walked batter. Brandon Grabkowski pitched the sixth inning and Steve Hanscom pitched the seventh.

Chris Hood fell to 0-3 on the season for the Chargers.

Jackson Musco had a pair of hits in three at-bats to lead Colby-Sawyer.
