CASTINE, Maine - March 21, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team began North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with an impressive 22-8 victory at Maine Maritime on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the NAC. Colby-Sawyer will play under the lights on Wednesday at intrastate rival New England College in Henniker. The two teams met in last year's NAC quartefinals with the Chargers earning a 14-10 upset road victory.
Alyssia Janak and
Sara Berry led the way for the Chargers with four goals apiece, while
Molly Mulcahy,
Nicole Lavigne and
Caitlyn Whearty added hat tricks for the visitors.
Lavigne picked up 11 draw controls to lead the Chargers, Berry picked up a game-high five ground balls.
Meghan Castellano picked up her first win of the season in the net, working the first half and stopping three shots.
In their first NCAA game at Ritchie Field, the Mariners were led by a hat trick by Briana Obshatkin. Ally Fuehrer picked up two goals, while Leah Libby, Patricia Dunford, and Rachael Redles grabbed the other scores for the Mariners.Fuehrer recorded a team-high draw controls, while Libby scooped up four ground balls.
