Baseball Falls to Sewanee, 6-1

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – March 18, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team lost a nine inning game to Sewanee (Tenn.) of the Southern Athletic Association, 6-1 at Lake Myrtle Park on Wednesday evening.

The Chargers drop to 0-6 and will look to get a win tomorrow with a doubleheader against Utica beginning at 1:30 p.m. in Winter Haven at the Chain O'Lakes complex. Sewanee evens its record to 7-7 and will play Gallaudet tomorrow at noon. 

Sewanee scored single runs in the bottom of the second and third to take a 2-0 lead before the Chargers cut the deficit in half with a run of their own in the top of the fourth. The Tigers added two in the fifth and eighth innings to secure the 6-1 victory.

Ben Clune finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base to lead Sewanee. Tyler Minkkinen had a pair of doubles, a RBI, and a run scored, while first baseman Drew Mancuso added two hits and two runs scored for the Tigers.

Brett Emmertz led the Chargers with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate, while Rob Wallace was 1-for-3 and knocked in the Chargers' lone run of the game.

Brad Basham earned his first career win for the Tigers going six innings. He allowed one run on six hits.

Freshman Andrew Carbone pitched well in his first career start. He went 7.1 innings, gave up five earned runs, struck out five and did not walk a single batter.
