Keene Downs Colby-Sawyer Baseball, 6-1

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - March 16, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team fell to intrastate foe Keene State, 6-1 at the Chain O'Lakes Baseball Complex on Monday afternoon.

The Owls improve to 3-3 while the Chargers fall to 0-5. Both teams will be off tomorrow. The Owls will face Lesley University in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., while Colby-Sawyer plays Sewanee at 6 p.m. also on Wednesday.

Kevin Guild pitched seven innings of two-hit ball with eight strikeouts to lift the Owls to the victory. Colby-Sawyer sophomore Michael Fazio also pitched well in his season debut. He tossed 7.1 innings, while giving up three earned runs on seven hits and struck out four.

Trevor Chapin and Tanner Chase each had two hits for the Owls.

Freshman Brady Dion recorded his first collegiate hit for the Chargers in the first inning.

KSC used single runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings to creep out to an early lead.  Chapin led off the fourth win a walk and moved up to second on Christian Bourgea's sacrifice bunt.  Vinny Parilla brought him home with a single to center field.

Tanner Chase led off the fifth with a triple to left-center, scoring on Joe Libby's sacrifice fly.  Libby picked up another RBI in the seventh, bringing in Robbie Hamilton, who led off the inning with a walk.

KSC added three more runs in the eighth, taking advantage of a pair of Colby-Sawyer errors.  Chapin came home as Parilla reached on a fielder's choice, while Matt Boulay had a sacrifice fly and Chase singled in Parilla.

Guild, meanwhile, kept the Chargers at bay; after allowing a first inning single to Brady Dion, Guild shut the door on Colby-Sawyer, retiring the next 11 batters before Justin Devoid singled to open the fifth.  Guild struck out the next two batters, then picked off Devoid on first base to end the inning.

The Chargers broke through for a run in the ninth on a fielder's choice from Nathan Frongillo, but could not muster any more damage as a double play would end the inning and the game in favor of Keene, 6-1.
