Lexi Iannone's Career-High 23 Points Lifts Chargers Past NEC

Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. – February 14, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer College women's basketball team hit 6-of-7 free throws in the final two minutes of play lifting the Chargers past the New England College Pilgrims 67-62 Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.

With the win the Charges improve to 13-10 overall and 10-6 in the NAC. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 17-6 on the season and 11-5 in the NAC.
 
Colby-Sawyer would score the opening five points of the contest and lead by as many as eight early in the opening half.  NEC chipped away trailing by just one down 26-25 late in the half before Colby-Sawyer would nail four straight free throws rebuilding their five point lead with 1:53 on the clock. The Pilgrims responded as Taylor Burgess (Randallstown, Mad.) hit a pair of foul shots followed by a last second layup by Jasmine Rayford (Baltimore, Md.) sending NEC into halftime down just 30-29.
 
The Pilgrims grabbed their first lead of the contest just seconds into the second half which saw four ties and eight lead changes. The Pilgrims led by five with just over four minutes remaining in regulation but a three-pointer by Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) and four straight free throws by Kristin Ellis (South Easton, Mass.) would eliminate the lead and put the Chargers up 61-60 with 2:05 to play. Colby-Sawyer went on to hold the Pilgrims to just one point in the final minutes and convert on 6-of-7 free throws for the eventual 67-62 victory.
 
Four different Chargers scored in double figures including Lexi Iannone who finished with a career-high 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Kristin Ellis finished with a double-double of in 15 points to go along with a team-high 12 rebounds, while Katie McCarthy (Mansfield, Mass.) finished with 16 points and six assists for the Chargers.
 
Leading the way for NEC was Taylor Burgess who led all scorers finishing with 30 points and pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds. NEC's Kayla Lawlor (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) was the only other Pilgrim in double-figures chipping in 11 points, while Kiley Williams (Salem, Utah) finished with six points and six rebounds.
 
NEC will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 19 when they travel to battle conference opponent Johnson State College. Colby-Sawyer will hit the court again on Thursday, Feb. 19 as well when they travel to take on conference foe Lyndon State College.
