NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 2, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team cruised to a 76-21 victory over Green Mountain in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams Wednesday evening.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the NAC. The Chargers will travel to Lyndon for a 1 p.m. tip on Saturday. Green Mountain drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Eagles will host Thomas on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
The Chargers were paced by junior
Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.). She poured in 18 points and grabbed four boards. Senior
Jessica Shenkel (Sharon, Mass.) had 15 points, while sophomore
Amanda Calvo (South Deerfield, Mass.) chipped in 10 points and a career-high five blocks in her first collegiate start. Senior
Kylah Jones (Burlington, Vt.) brought down a game best eight rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench.
Green Mountain was led by Sherelle Jackson (Greenville, S.C) who had five points. Hayley Loisel (Tolland, Conn.) and Maddy Postnikoff each had four with Postnikoff also hauling in seven rebounds.
The Eagles failed to score in the opening ten minutes of play and only scored two points in the half while the hosts hit for 45 in the half.
Colby-Sawyer controlled all facets of the game with a 65-46 advantage on the glass, while scoring 34 points off of 28 Eagle miscues. The Chargers also recorded 14 blocks, which is second most in program history behind the 15 blocks against Fitchburg earlier this season.
