NEW LONDON, N.H. – November 10, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team will make an appearance in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament for the third straight season and fourth time in program history. The Chargers earned the sixth seed and play at third seed Springfield College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Colby-Sawyer reached the ECAC Championship game last season, but fell to Endicott, who is this year's top seed, in overtime. The Chargers are 2-3 overall in three ECAC tournaments.
Wednesday's match between the Chargers and Pride will be the first ever meeting.
Colby-Sawyer has had a lengthy time off after being upset in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) quarterfinals on November 1. The Chargers are 11-7 on the season and have one of the most dynamic players in the nation in sophomore
Denali Sexton (Barrington, R.I.). He leads the team with 47 points on 17 goals and 13 assists. Sexton still ranks in the top-10 in the country in points, assists, assists per game, and points per game.
Springfield enters the tournament with a 14-4-1 record out of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The Pride fell to MIT 1-0 in the NEWMAC semifinals.
Springfield is led by junior Luke Alvaro who has 35 points on 15 goals and five assists. Springfield has one of the stingiest defenses in the nation with a .62 goals against average and have surrendered 12 goals this season.
The tournament will be an eight-team field, which will have four quarterfinal games on Wednesday, November 11 followed by semifinals on Saturday, November 14 and the championship game on Sunday, November 15. The host team for the weekend will be the top-remaining seed following Wednesday's quarterfinals.
