Volleyball Drops Two Close Matches at Endicott Invitational

BEVERLY, Mass. - October 10, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer women's volleyball team lost a pair of hard fought matches on the second day of competition at the Endicott Invitational. The Chargers fell to Babson 3-1 and Moravian 3-2.

In a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament first round, the Chargers were able to take the first set off the Beavers 25-19, but lost the next three 25-19, 25-18 and 25-16.

Gabrielle Rodriguez recorded her first double-double of the day with a team best 10 kills and 11 digs. Kelsey Sullivan and Kelsey McCulley added eight kills apiece.

In their final match of the tournament, the Chargers dropped a five set thriller to Moravian 17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 24-26, 15-12. In the opening set, Moravian had a quick 3-0 lead before Colby-Sawyer took control for the set victory. The Hounds would trail by five points early in the second set before escaping with the two point win.

The third set would be close until the Greyhounds received some tough serving to help build a slim lead late and secure the set victory. Once again, the fourth set would go back-and-forth with the Hounds holding a 24-22 lead but Colby-Sawyer scored the final four points to knot the match at 2-2. The Hounds rebounded from a 5-0 deficit in the deciding set as Moravian went on to capture the 15-9 set win for their team's 11th victory of the season.

The Chargers were led by Gabrielle Rodriguez and Kelsey McCulley as they each recorded double-doubles. Rodriguez had 12 kills and 14 digs, while McCulley collected 12 kills and 12 digs. Lexi Strong had a match-high 28 digs, while Gabrielle Ratte had 40 assists and 18 digs on her way to being named to the All-Tournament Team.

Colby-Sawyer will remain on the road next week with a match at Amherst and a tri-match at Husson with Maine Maritime.
