NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 1, 2015 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team was defeated by Saint Michael's College, 3-1 on Thursday evening. The Purple Knights won by scores of 25-16, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-17.
Saint Michael's improves to 8-4 and will resume Northeast-10 action on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home match against Stonehill. The Chargers will look to rebound when they open North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play this weekend with a home tri-match against Lyndon at 11:00 a.m. and Johnson State at 3:00 p.m.
Colby-Sawyer received seven kills from senior Kelsey McCulley (Southampton, N.Y.) and six from senior Kelsey Sullivan (Laconia, N.H.). Freshmen Erin Burgoyne (Dracut, Mass.) and Gabrielle Ratte (Kula, Hawaii) had five kills apiece. Senior Laura Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) registered a double-double of 15 assists and 13 digs. Six-foot senior Candace Washington (New Carrollton, Md.) controlled the net for the Division II Purple Knights collecting 19 kills and five total blocks, while hitting .630. Senior Kelsey Flaherty (Cold Spring, N.Y.) also reached double figure kills with 12 and added 13 digs. Junior libero Natalie Moore (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) had a match best 28 digs.
