NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 31, 2015 – Senior
Koang Thok (Portland, Maine) led all scorers with 17 points to help the Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team to an 84-70 win over the University of Maine-Farmington in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play Saturday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 12-5 overall and 10-2 in the NAC. The Chargers travel to Maine Maritime on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. tip. UMF falls to 4-14 overall and 3-9 in the conference. The Beavers step out of NAC play for a road game at Bates on Tuesday.
The Chargers used a strong offensive first half and controlled the boards to take a 49-29 lead into the locker room. Colby-Sawyer shot 56.3 percent from the floor and knocked down 6-of-13 three-pointers. Senior
Mike Dias (Carver, Mass.) and junior
Wol Majong (Manchester, N.H.) had 10 points apiece in the frame.
UMF closed the gap a bit in the second half thanks to nearly perfect shooting from the free throw line. The Beavers made 17-of-19 attempts on their way to outscoring the Chargers 41-35 in the half. Colby-Sawyer was able to keep a comfortable cushion of at least 14 points for the entire frame due to strong play in the paint and the ability to score off UMF miscues. Colby-Sawyer finished the game with a 40-26 edge in points in the paint and scored 30 points off 20 UMF turnovers.
Thok finished with a season-high 17 points leading all players. Junior
Peter Donato (Portland, Maine) and
Wol Majong each had 14 points. Junior
Jake Maynard (Shelburne, Vt.) grabbed a game best 11 rebounds.
Mike Dias had 12 points to move into eighth on Colby-Sawyer's all-time scoring list with 1,328 career points.
The Beavers were led by junior Nick Hilton (Wilton, Maine). He was 6-for-6 from the free throw line and finished with 16 points. Senior Pet Sumner (Cramerton, N.C.) had 15 points, while senior Uriah Forest-Bulley (Turner Falls, Mass.) contributed 13 points and a game-high three blocks.
