WATERVILLE, Maine - January 10, 2015 - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team cruised to a 77-32 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory at Thomas College on Saturday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The Chargers resume play next weekend with home games against Maine Maritime and Husson. Thomas drops to 1-11 overall and 0-6 in the NAC.
The Terriers got out to an early lead, going up by a score of 7-4 three minutes into the game after a Ashleigh Gagne three-pointer. Colby-Sawyer answered right back to take the lead with 13 minutes to play in the first half. The Chargers used a 24-0 run throughout the half to guide them to a 41-14 halftime lead.
The Chargers continued to play suffocating defense in the second half and held the Terriers to 22.2% shooting. Colby-Sawyer ended the game with a decisive edge on the glass for the second straight day, outrebounding the Terriers 54-36.
Jessica Shenkel scored a team-high 12 points, while
Katie McCarthy and
Emmani Robinson each added 10 points of their own.
Kristin Ellis had a team-high 10 rebounds in the victory for the Chargers.
Ashleigh Gagne scored a game-high 13 points in the loss for the Terriers.
