WATERVILLE, Maine - September 6, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday. The Chargers fell to Colby College, 5-3, but rebounded with a 9-0 sweep of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponent Thomas College. The Chargers are now 2-2 on the season and will play at Plymouth on Wednesday. 

Anne Morris (Wilmette, Ill.) fell 6-0 in the first set, but settled down and fought back for 6-2, 6-2 set wins to earn the important match at third singles.

Colby first-years Katherine Ryan (Falmouth, Maine) and Megan Jean Giblin (Westborough, Mass.) also won singles matches. Ryan gave up just one game over two sets at fourth singles, while Giblin cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at six.

Erica Talamo (Newton, Mass.), one of Colby's two seniors, and first-year Jamie Au (Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong) teamed up for an 8-6 win at first doubles. Ryan then joined forces with fellow first-year Olivia Stein (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) for a 9-8 (4) victory at third doubles.

Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) won 6-2, 6-3 at first singles for Colby-Sawyer. Lauren Blanchard (Agawam, Mass.) had the other singles win by a 7-6 (2), 6-3 score at the fifth spot.

The other win for Colby-Sawyer was a tight 9-8 (5) second doubles win for Oxana Tkachenko (Lviv, Ukraine) and Blanchard.
