NEW LONDON, N.H. - September 30, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team fell to Nichols College, 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
Nichols improves to 10-2 and will host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Curry on Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. The Chargers even their record to 5-5 and will play at Southern Maine on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
The Bison began the afternoon by winning two of three doubles matches. Lindsay Benoit and Cristina Szepanski defeated
Sam White and
Oxana Tkachenko, 8-4 at No. 2, while Ashley Dallaire and Daniela Saldarriaga teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 3 over
Christine Hill and
Ellen Graham. Colby-Sawyer's lone doubles point came at the top spot from duo
Ashlyn Ramsay and
Ashley Woodside. They defeated Lauren Candia and Alanna Judd, 8-2.
Judd and Candia rebounded from their doubles loss by winning their singles matches in straight sets. Judd edged Ramsay 6-4, 6-3 at the top flight, while Candia cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the fourth flight.
Lindsay Benoit defeated
Sam White 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 to give the Bison enough points to clinch the match.
Ashley Dallaire battled
Oxana Tkachenko in a three set match. After each player took a set 6-0, Dallaire won the third 10-4.
Woodside and
Lauren Blanchard picked up singles victories for the Chargers. After dropping the first set 6-0, Woodside regrouped and took the second and third sets 6-3, 6-2, respectively. Blanchard defeated Daniele Saldarriaga 7-5, 5-10 and 10-8 as the darkness became a factor.
