Box Score

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 30, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's soccer team soared to a 5-0 victory over Becker at Kelsey Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Chargers (5-4-1) will resume North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday when they host Castleton at 1:00 p.m. Becker (2-9) plays a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) match on Saturday at Newbury beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The first 15 minutes of the game was uneventful as most of the play occurred in the midfield. Colby-Sawyer was a bit unlucky a couple of minutes later when two shots ricocheted off the crossbar back into play.

The Chargers were able to find the back of the net in the 29th minute when sophomore Andrew Clothier (Matamata, New Zealand) found the ball at his feet after a failed clear attempt by the Becker back line. Clothier took a dribble a ripped a shot into the left side of the net from 20 yards for his second goal of the season.

Colby-Sawyer scored once more before the half with 11 seconds remaining. Clothier sent a corner kick into the box where freshman Denali Sexton (Barrington, R.I.) used his head to flick the ball on net. Sexton's shot was saved by Karl Cameron (Jacksonville, Fla.), but the keeper could not control the ball as it went back into play. Freshman Nick Gonzalez (Melrose, Mass.) took the rebound and scored his first collegiate goal.

The Chargers held a 14-1 edge in shots and a 5-0 advantage in corners in the first 45 minutes.

The home team would keep up the pressure in the second half and added a third goal six minutes into the frame. After senior Max Yee's (Hooksett, N.H.) first shot was denied by the Becker keeper, he stayed with the play and deposited his own rebound for his third goal in the past two games.

Another freshman duo would connect in the 83rd minute for Colby-Sawyer's fourth goal.  Ege Basaran (Merdivenkoy, Turkey) sent a precise through ball to a sprinting Eddie Garcia (Damascus, Md.). Garcia did the rest and chipped the ball into the far corner of the net for his first collegiate tally.

Colby-Sawyer added a fifth goal in the 85th minute when the Hawks were called for a hand ball in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Freshman Michael Crowley (North Waterboro, Maine) calmly deposited the try in the back of the net past the diving keeper for his first collegiate goal.

Senior Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) did not have to make a save on the way to his fifth clean sheet of the season. Cameron made 13 stops for Becker.

The Chargers ended the game with advantages of 33-1 in shots and 14-0 in corner kicks.

Senior Michael Miklos (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded the lone shot for Becker off a free kick that sailed over the net.
