Daniel Webster Edges Men's Soccer, 3-2

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 3, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team fell to visiting Daniel Webster College, 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Kelsey Field.

Daniel Webster (1-0-1) will host Emmanuel on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Colby-Sawyer (0-1-1) travels to Plymouth on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The game will be played at New Hampton School.

The visitors received a pair of unassisted goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead at intermission. Sophomore Michael Ottman (Kennebunkport, Maine) scored his first of the season at 18:26 when he benefited from a miscue by the Colby-Sawyer goalie.

The Eagles' second goal came seven minutes later at 25:12 from sophomore Marcos Vieira Filho (Pernambuco, Brazil). Filho was able to gather the ball in traffic after a rebound found his foot. He beat the keeper for his first tally of the season.

Daniel Webster increased its lead to 3-0 early in the second half on freshman Aaron Esparza's (Dover, N.H.) team leading second goal of the season at 48:32.
The second and third goals by Daniel Webster came with 10 men on the field due to a player being sent off at 23:26 in the first half.

Colby-Sawyer made a push in the second half to climb back into the game. At 51:50, the Chargers got on the board with the first collegiate goal from freshman Denali Sexton (Barrington, R.I.).

Four minutes later, the home team carried the momentum and cut the deficit to 3-2. Sophomore Andrew Clothier (Matamata, New Zealand) took a corner kick and bent the ball into the box. Six-foot-two sophomore Rick Prindiville (Hooksett, N.H.) put his head on the ball and flicked it past the Eagles goalie for his first tally of the year.

Neither team could put another goal on the board in the final 35 minutes, which resulted in the 3-2 final in favor of Daniel Webster.  

Colby-Sawyer welcomed the Kearsarge U-12, Kearsarge U-14, Proctor Academy boy's, and Kearsarge boy's soccer teams to today's contest.
