NEW LONDON, N.H. - September 28, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team fell to Roger Williams, 5-4 in a non-conference match at the Kelsey Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon. 

Roger Williams improves to 8-3, while the Chargers dip to 5-4. 

The Hawks won two of three doubles to take a 2-1 advantage in the match. Colby-Sawyer took the top doubles match in an 8-6 fashion. Ashlyn Ramsay teamed with Ashley Woodside for the victory over Alexandra Brown and Lauren Schmidt. Roger Williams then took the second and third doubles matches. Harley Kaiserman and Caroline McCarthy defeated Oxana Tkachenko and Sam White, 8-4 at No. 2, while the No. 3 duo of Caitlin Pierpoint and Julia Akerman downed Lauren Blanchard and Ellen Graham, 8-2. 

Needing three points to clinch the match, Roger Williams received strong performances at the No. 4 and No. 6 slots. Ali Stankiewicz defeated Christine Hill 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, while Caitlin Pierpoint soared to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6. 

Caroline McCarthy dropped the first set against Sam White, 6-2 but rebounded to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-3 and clinch the match for the visitors. 

Ashlyn Ramsay continued to perform well for the Chargers at the top flight with a thrilling three set victory over Lauren Schmidt 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-1.

Ashley Woodside also played well for Colby-Sawyer. She won the No. 2 singles match over Kaiserman 6-4, 6-1. 

In the tightest match of the afternoon with a somewhat odd occurrence, Oxana Tkachenko defeated Lauren Fletcher two sets to one. Fletcher won the first set 7-6 with a 7-0 win in the tie break. Then Tkachenko battled back to take the second set 7-6 with an identical 7-0 win in the tie break. The Colby-Sawyer senior then took the match with a 10-5 win in the third set.
