Box Score ANDOVER, N.H. – September 14, 2014 – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team earned a 5-0 victory over Newbury, on Sunday evening under the lights at Proctor Academy.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-2-1 and will travel to Rivier on Wednesday for a third consecutive night game. Newbury drops to 1-6-1 and travels to Mount Ida on Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
The Chargers wasted no time to go in front, as they took the kickoff down the field and scored 25 seconds into the half. Sophomore
Andrew Clothier (Matamata, New Zealand) volleyed a pass from freshman
Eddie Garcia (Damascus, Md.) into the back of the net for his first of the season.
Less than two minutes later, senior
Alex Ortega (Milton, Vt.) doubled Colby-Sawyer's lead. Ortega one-timed a pass from freshman
Denali Sexton (Barrington, R.I.) into the left corner of the net.
The Chargers would add one more goal before halftime in the 37th minute. Freshman
Zach Elmore (Berlin, Vt.) notched his first collegiate goal when he finished a pass from
Andrew Clothier.
Colby-Sawyer added a pair of goals in the second half that came off of corner kicks.
In the 73rd minute, senior
Chris DiCecca (Wilmington, Mass.) deposited his team leading third goal of the season off a corner kick from
Andrew Clothier.
Seven minutes later, the Chargers would score from the opposite corner.
Alex Ortega sent in a bending ball that found the foot of junior
Zach Anderson (Wilmington, Mass.). Anderson sent the ball past the diving keeper for his first collegiate goal.
Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) made one save on the way to the shutout. Newbury goalie Woodjerry Dieudonne (Dorchester, Mass.) had three stops in the loss.
Colby-Sawyer outshot the Nighthawks 22-6 and held an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
