MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - May 8, 2014 - Babson moved to the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament after a 5-0 win over Colby-Sawyer in an NCAA Regional played at Middlebury College's Proctor Courts.
The Beavers (11-10) will take on Middlebury (18-3) in a second-round match-up at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers end their year with a 14-9 record.
Connor DeFiore and Saif Rahim earned the first point for Babson at #2 doubles with an 8-4 win over
Cass McCann and
Justin Pinard. A few minutes later, Ramone Doyley and Dom Wysolmerski trailed 4-7 in the third spot. However, the Babson duo rattled off five-consecutive games for a 9-7 victory over Colby-Sawyer's
Dean Boodakian and
Sergio Spassof. The top doubles match featured longer rallies, as Roberto Perez and Victor Vu completed the sweep for the Beavers, posting an 8-4 win against
Nathan Taschereau and
Myles Utell.
In singles play, Babson tallied the fourth point via a 6-0, 6-3 victory by Rahim at #5 over Boodakian. At #3, Doyley finished seconds later, scoring the team's fifth point with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph against McCann.
In the other four matches, Perez, Vu, DeFiore and Wysolmerski each tallied an opening-set victory in their respective matches for Babson.
