NEW LONDON, N.H. - April 6, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team earned its third straight North Atlantic Conference victory with a 9-0 sweep of Johnson State on Sunday.
Colby-Sawyer evens its overall record to 8-8 and goes to 3-0 in the NAC, while Johnson State falls to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
The Chargers swept through the doubles competition while only losing two sets in all three matches.
Myles Utell and
Nathan Taschereau earned an 8-1 win in the #1 doubles over Cory Chase and Cole Hennessey. In the #2 doubles, the duo of
Justin Pinard and
Cass McCann earned an 8-0 sweep of Johnson's Greg Davis and Alex Pakatar. The Chargers completed the doubles sweep as
Will Triebel and Matt Plouffe earned an 8-1 win in the #3 doubles.
Colby-Sawyer continued its dominace in the singles competition winning all but three sets.
Myles Utell (#1),
Sergio Spassof (#2),
Dean Boodakian (#3) and
Clay Allen (#4) all earned straight set wins. The Chargers completed the 9-0 win as
Ryan Sawyer (#5) and
Jesse Bornkessel (#6) each posted wins. Sawyer earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Johnson's Harris Shapiro and Bornkessel defested Zach Baughn 6-1, 6-0.
Colby-Sawyer returns to action Saturday when they travel to Norton, Mass. for a non-conference tilt with Wheaton College. Johnson plays Tuesday versus NAC foe Castleton.
