GORHAM, Maine  - April 2, 2014 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 non-conference match to the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday afternoon at the Costello Sports Complex courts.

The win is the fourth straight for the Huskies who improve to 4-3 overall. The Huskies are now 3-0 at home.  The Chargers fall to 6-8 dropping their second consecutive match.

Senior Corey Dyke (Monmouth, Maine/Monmouth Academy) and freshman Kyle Curley (Gorham, Maine) earned an 8-3 win at second doubles as the University of Southern Maine Huskies won two out of three doubles points en route to a 7-2 victory.

Dyke and Curley defeated the Charger tandem of junior Sergio Spassof (Pallini, Greece/ ACS Athens) and freshman Dean Boodakian (Burlington, Mass.). Junior Thaddeus St. John (Weld, Maine/Mt. Blue) and senior Christopher G. Ross (Somerset, Mass.) earned an 8-2 victory at third doubles to put USM in front of the Chargers 2-1 heading into singles play.

In singles action, Southern Maine won five out of the six points to seal the victory.  Sophomore Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) continued his strong play at the top of the lineup defeating Colby-Sawyer junior Nathan Taschereau (Goffstown, N.H.) 6-2, 6-4 at first singles.  Ross gutted his way to a hard-won 7-5, 5-7, 15-13 victory at fifth singles over junior Justin Pinard (Essex, Vt.) to highlight the victory.

Tascherau and freshman Myles Utell (Bedford, N.H.) earned the Chargers doubles point at first doubles with an 8-6 win over Adams and junior Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine).  While Utell picked up the 6-1, 6-4 win at second singles over Curley.

Colby-Sawyer returns to North Atlantic Conference play Saturday when they travel to Green Mountain College (1 p.m.). Southern Maine returns to action against Little East foe UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (1 p.m.) in a home contest.
