Jessica Shenkel Scores 21 Points in 83-35 Win over Thomas

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 11, 2014 – Sophomore Jessica Shenkel (Sharon, Mass.) scored a career-high 21 points to help lift Colby-Sawyer to an 83-35 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Thomas College on Saturday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer evens its overall record to 6-6 and improves to 5-1 in the NAC. Thomas drops to 2-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

Shenkel led 14 Colby-Sawyer scorers with 7 of 13 shooting. She connected on three treys and made all four of her free throw attempts. Junior Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) went 7-11 for 14 points. Senior Ashley Fruzzetti (Carver, Mass.) continued her hot shooting from beyond the arc with four three-pointers for 12 points. Sophomore Helena Hamilton (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and freshman Lexi Iannone (North Haven, Conn.) were the leading scorers off the bench with six apiece. Sophomore Katie McCarthy (Mansfield, Mass.) recorded a career-high eight assists.

Thomas was led by sophomore Katie McAllister (Pittston, Maine). She scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds. Freshman Kelly Macomber (West Gardiner, Maine) made all three shot attempts to score seven points off the bench. Sophomore Emilee Reynolds (Newport, Maine) added six points and five rebounds.

Colby-Sawyer controlled all facets of the game and led from wire to wire. The Chargers held a 50-33 edge on the glass and scored 26 points off of 24 Thomas miscues. The Terriers shot 21.6% from the floor.

The Chargers connected on 13 of 15 attempts at the free throw line.
