Daniel Webster Edges Men's Soccer 2-1 in OT

Box Score NASHUA, N.H. - September 4, 2013 – Rookie Erick Germano (Lowell, Mass.) popped home a Paul Hoy (Merrimack, N.H.) pass from five yards out just 25 seconds into overtime to give host Daniel Webster a 2-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer in a matchup in intrastate soccer foes Wednesday at Eagle Field.

BOX SCORE

Germano's winner sent the Eagles to their first 2-0 start in program history and gave Daniel Webster its first ever victory against the Chargers (1-1) in a series dating back to 1993, led by CSC at 4-1-1.

The meeting was the second time in as many seasons that the two teams went to overtime and the contest was again evenly played as the Eagles finished with slight advantages in shots on goal (10-7) and corner kicks (5-2). The teams were both physical, combining for 30 fouls.

Brad Hosey (Salem, N.H.) put the hosts up 1-0 heading home a Germano corner kick to the left corner just 5:21 into this contest but Carlton Wheeler-Omiunu (Bellingham, Mass.) would tie it just over seven minutes later, redirecting Alex Ortega's (Milton, Vt.) free kick from 25 yards to the low right side.

From there, each team pushed offensively but couldn't find the go-ahead strike over the next 77 minutes.

DWC saw its best chance in regulation come with 22 minutes remaining when a Richard Eaton shot straight on from 20 yards arched toward the top right corner, but Charger net minder Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) made a terrific leaping save to swat the threat away.

Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) finished with six stops for DWC, while Austin turned aside eight Eagle chances.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday visiting Emmanuel for a 1:00 p.m. matchup while Colby-Sawyer hosts Plymouth State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
