BRISTOL, R.I. – September 20, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team won its first match of the season with a 7-2 triumph over Roger Williams on Friday evening.
The Hawks began the day well, taking two of the three doubles matches. Jonah Schwartz (Orange, Conn.) and Ryan Swanson (West Newbury, Mass.) defeated
Nathan Taschereau (Goffstown, N.H.) and
Myles Utell (Bedford, N.H.) 8-3 at #1, while Eric Bott (Bethel, Conn.) and Kyle Bull (Pleasantville, N.Y.) won 8-4 over
Cass McCann (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) and
Justin Pinard (Essexc, Vt.) at #2. Colby-Sawyer's
Dean Boodakian (Burlington, Vt.) and
Sergio Spassof (Pallini, Greece) picked up the Chargers' first point with an 8-5 win at #3 against Andrew Amarone (North Haven, Conn.) and John Bonanno (Westford, Mass.)
From that point, it would be all Colby-Sawyer, as the Chargers took all six singles matches. Spassof and
Clay Allen picked up identical 6-3, 6-1 wins at #6 and #5, respectively, over Bonanno and Bott. Swanson and Taschereau battled to a tightly-contested match at #1, but Taschereau came out ahead in the end 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Roger Williams (0-1) heads to the Stonehill Invitational on October 5, while Colby-Sawyer (1-1) hosts UMass-Boston on Sunday.
