Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – August 30, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team opened the 2013 season with a 2-0 victory over Plattsburgh, on Friday evening. The Chargers are 3-0-1 in their last four season openers.
BOX SCORE
The Chargers had the first scoring chance of the game six minutes into the first half. Senior
Liz Sullivan (West Warwick, R.I.) ripped a shot from the right side, but Cardinal's keeper Charisse Abellard (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) deflected the ball wide for the save.
Colby-Sawyer took a 1-0 lead at 31:05 on freshman
Rachel Quaye's (Westminster, Mass.) first collegiate goal. Quaye was running down the right flank when sophomore
Morgan Ekstrom (Wolfeboro, N.H.) threaded the ball between two defenders. The precise pass led to a break away for Quaye who deposited the ball in the left corner of the net.
Colby-Sawyer controlled the pace in the first half and outshot the Cardinal's 7-0.
Plattsburgh had a chance to knot the game at 1-1 four minutes into the second frame when freshman Diana DiCocco (Schenectady, N.Y.) beat her defender. DiCocco weaved through traffic and found herself with just the goalie to beat, but sophomore keeper
Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) made a diving save to preserve the 1-0 Colby-Sawyer lead.
Three minutes later, the Chargers went ahead 2-0 on a goal from junior
Sarah Little (Scarborough, Maine). The Cardinal's defense was trying to clear the ball out of their zone when Little stepped in front for the steal. She then dribbled to the right of the box and scored into the cross corner.
Hamilton earned the win and made four saves for the Chargers. Abellard made three saves in the loss.
The Chargers will host Rivier on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., while Plattsburgh travels to Rivier on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
