NEW LONDON, N.H. - April 6, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer College men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a 9-0 win over Thomas College Saturday afternoon at Mountainside Tennis Club.
The Chargers improve to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in NAC play, while the Terriers drop to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in NAC play. The Chargers take a break from NAC play on Sunday when they travel to Beverly, Mass. to take on Endicott College. Game time is set for 1:00pm. Thomas College travels to Johnson State on Sunday for a noon match.
Colby-Sawyer opened the match by dominating the doubles' matches. Reeve Fidler and Nathan Taschereau had the closest doubles match beating Eric Morin (Lewiston, Maine) and Tyler Small (Surry, Maine) 9-7. The team of Justin Pinard and Sergio Spassof won 8-3 and Paul Holland and Clay Allen earned an 8-1 vicotry.
In singles' action, the Chargers posted straight set victories in five of the six matchups. In No. 1 singles, Nathan Taschereau cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The No. 2 singles proved to be the toughest challenge for the Chargers on the day. Justin Pinard lost the first set 6-0, but rebounded to win the next two sets 7-5, 10-8.
In the No. 3 singles match, Clay Allen earned a straight set sweep of Caleb Mora (Surry, Maine), 6-2, 6-1. In the No. 4 singles, Sergio Spassof won 6-0, 6-1. The Chargers completed the 9-0 sweep with
straight set wins at No. 5 (Reeve Fidler, 6-2, 6-0) and No. 6 singles (Paul Holland, 6-0, 6-0).
