Men's Tennis Wins Second Straight NAC East Division Title

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 27, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team defeated Thomas College 9-0 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division Championship to advance to the NAC Final for the second straight season. The Chargers will play the winner of the NAC West Division on May 5 at Tri-City fitness in Latham, New York.

In the semifinal round, top-seed Colby-Sawyer cruised to a 9-0 sweep over fourth-seed Lyndon, and third seeded Thomas advanced to the final round by upsetting second seed Castleton, 5-4.

Colby-Sawyer jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after doubles play in the championship. The No. 1 team of Nathan Taschereau and Reeve Fidler dispatched Tyler Small and Eric Morin 8-5. Justin Pinard and Sergio Spassof defeated Joseph Greco and Caleb Mora 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. The third doubles team of Clay Allen and Paul Holland won 8-1 over Gershom Renee and Dakota Duplissie.

Taschereau had to battle to win his first set over Morin, 7-5, but then took the straight sets victory with a 6-1 win in the second. Tyler Small gave the Terriers their best chance to steal a point in the No. 2 slot forcing the match to go three sets with Pinard. After splitting the first two sets, Pinard took the match with a 10-5 win in the tie break. Allen, Spassof, Fidler and Holland all cruised to straight sets victories to secure the Chargers second straight NAC East Division crown.
