WENHAM, Mass. - March 28, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team earned a 6-3 victory over Gordon on Thursday evening. The Fighting Scots drop to 3-6 overall, while the Chargers even up at 4-4 with the win.
Nathan Taschereau (So./Goffstown, N.H.) and
Reeve Fidler (Sr./Groton, Mass.) teamed up at No. 1 doubles to record an 8-5 decision over Gordon's top pair of Zach Hall (Fr./Sugarland, Texas) and Kenny Gaudio (Jr./Miller Place, N.Y.) and
Justin Pinard (So./Essex, Vt.) and
Sergio Spassof (So./Pallini, Greece) did the same at No. 3 over the Scots' Joe Daugherty (Fr./Norfolk, Va.) and Mike Olszak (So./Danvers, Mass.), 8-3, to earn the 2-1 advantage heading into individual play.
Brandon Inkles (Sr./New York, N.Y.) and Richie Armand (Fr./Hempstead, N.Y.) picked up the lone win at No. 2 for Gordon, battling to an 8-6 win over Colby-Sawyer's
Clay Allen (So./Massena, N.Y.) and
Paul Holland (Sr./England, UK) to keep the Scots within striking distance.
Hall went on to keep Gordon's hopes alive with a hard-fought 5-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win at No. 1 over Taschereau, while Daugherty claimed his own three-set grudge match decision at No. 5, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8. The day overall belonged to Colby-Sawyer, however, as Pinard, Spassof, and Holland recorded straight-set wins at Nos. 2, 4, and 6, respectively, to derail any attempts at a Gordon comeback.
The Scots host Bridgewater State on Tuesday, April 2 at 3:30 p.m., while the Chargers host Green Mountain in their conference opener on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m.
