CASTINE, Maine - February 10, 2013 - Colby-Sawyer overcame a 13-point first half deficit to knock off Maine Maritime 94-58 in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game Sunday.
The Chargers improved to 11-12 overall, 11-5 NAC while the Mariners dropped to 4-17, 3-12.
Ben Russell led Maine Maritime with 18 points and Paul Campbell added 11.
Mike Dias netted a game-high 24 on 10-11 for the Chargers,
Wol Majong scored 12 and
Zach Bean 11.
Maine Maritime opened the game with a nine-point, 11-2, lead with threes from Russell, Campbell and Tyler Chiasson and a layup by Russell. The Chargers pulled within six, on a trey by
Corey Willis, before the Mariners took a 22-9 lead on a Chiasson layup with 12:05 left in the opening half.
Colby-Sawyer answered with a 17-4 scoring, led by eight points from Bean, to even the game at 26-26 with 7:46 remaining. A layup by
Wol Majong at 5:07 put the Chargers ahead 33-26 and MMA would get as close as four, 33-29, on another Russell three. Dias' layup with 58 second left gave Colby-Sawyer a 44-30 halftime lead.
The Mariners got as close as 13, 52-39, on a Logan Poirier free throw at 15:56. The Chargers had their largest lead, 79-42, on
Kohl Meyers' layup at 7:14 and saw their lead dip below 31.
The Chargers will host Green Mountain on Thursday at 5:30 pm and will celebrate senior day.
