Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 29, 2013 – The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team fell to Wheaton College, 1-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
BOX SCORE
Wheaton improves to 13-5, while Colby-Sawyer drops to 8-7-2.
The game's lone goal came off the foot of Wheaton junior Ben Altneu (Orleans, Mass.). The play was set up when the Lyons were awarded a corner kick in the 25th minute. The Chargers were able to spoil Wheaton's first attempt to score, but failed to clear the ball long.
The ball eventually found junior Scott Enman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) close to the end line inside the box. He then flicked the ball backwards with his heel to an open Altneu. The Chargers' defense collapsed on the goal, but Altneu ripped a shot in the left corner for his third tally of the season.
The visitors had several more scoring chances throughout the remainder of the match, but could not find the back of the net.
The Lyons outshot Colby-Sawyer 28-4 and had a 12-1 edge in corners.
Colby-Sawyer junior keeper
Nick Austin (Westerly, R.I.) made four stops in 51 minutes of action before being lifted after an injury. Freshman
Beau Pingree (Northwood, N.H.) was up to the task to keep the Lyons off the scoreboard in the final 39 minutes. He made five saves in his first action of the season.
Wheaton sophomore goalie Matt Dickey (Newton, Mass.) was tested just once and came up with the save to record his seventh clean sheet of the season.
Colby-Sawyer travels to New England College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tournament quarterfinal match. Wheaton plays at Clark on Saturday in a regular season finale. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
