Men's Basketball Falls at Dartmouth, 80-42

HANOVER, N.H. – January 17, 2013 - The Colby-Sawyer College men's basketball team fell to Division I Dartmouth College 80-42 at Leede Arena on Thursday evening. The game marked the first time the two schools have played each other.

Dartmouth improves to 4-11 and will resume Ivy League action on January 26 at Harvard. Colby-Sawyer falls to 5-9 and will travel down I-89 on Saturday to play at New England College. Tip is at 3:00 pm.

Kyle Nelson led the Chargers with 11 points. Mike Dias added eight points, four steals and four rebounds. Koang Thok pulled down a team best eight rebounds.

Tyler Melville scored a game-high 16 points, while Gabas Maldunas added 14 points and a game best nine rebounds. Malik Gill contributed six points and six assists off the bench.

The Chargers trailed 9-2 early in the first half, before scoring a pair of buckets to cut the deficit to 9-6. Dartmouth responded with a 13-0 spurt over the next five minutes to take a 22-6 lead. A three-pointer by Thok put an end to the Big Green run at 8:22. The teams then exchanged a pair of treys before Dartmouth used the next 4:18 of the game to push its advantage to 33-12. Colby-Sawyer scored five of the last eight points to end the first half trailing 36-17.

Colby-Sawyer was able to get up nine more shots than the home team, but shot only 23.3% from the floor. The Big Green shot 57.1% in the first frame and held a 19-16 edge on the glass.

Kyle Nelson scored the first five points of the second half to pull Colby-Sawyer within 14 at 36-22. The Big Green then took control over the next eight minutes increasing the gap to 65-30 with eight minutes left to play. The scoring was nearly even for the remainder of the game as Dartmouth came away with the 80-42 victory. 

Dartmouth finished the game with a 42-25 advantage on the boards.
